GCSE Science Dialogues

From November 2020 to June 2022, GCSE produced a 10-part series called Science Dialogues which covered a range of complex issues in biodiversity, conservation science, and climate change. Each short video was conducted in interview format and established a bilateral discussion between the interviewer and a scientist or leading expert.

GCSE Science Dialogues No. 10 - How Science Informs Local Solutions (June 2022)

In the June edition of the GCSE Science Dialogues, Dr. Amy Zimmer-Faust, GCSE Senior Fellow for Local Climate Resilience, shares perspectives on how science informs local decision-making. A community of scientists and decision-makers working together offers opportunities to leverage existing assets while addressing complex environmental challenges.

GCSE Science Dialogues No. 9 - Science Diplomacy and Multilateralism in the 21st Century (May 2022)

In the May edition of the GCSE Science Dialogues, we are joined by Dr. Anna Stewart-Ibarra, Ph.D MPA, the Scientific Director of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research. Dr. Ibarra describes how IAI approaches transdisciplinary research, their recent science diplomacy work in the Caribbean, and their work in South America to help develop drought monitoring tools with funding from the EU.

GCSE Science Dialogues No. 8 - Planting Seeds of Inclusivity to Combat Climate Change in Indigenous Communities (April 2022)

In the April edition of the GCSE Science Dialogues, Dean Mario Montes-Helu from Tohono O'odham Community College, a GCSE Member Institution, discusses sustainability in the Tohono O'odham Nation region and surrounding Sonoran Desert, including the breadth of the value of sustainability from education to food systems to Indigenous culture and ways of knowing.

GCSE Science Dialogues No. 7 - Collaborating with NASA: Predicting Cholera Outbreaks (March 2022)

In the March edition of the GCSE Science Dialogues, GCSE board-member and noted microbiologist Dr. Rita Colwell, Distinguished Professor both at the University of Maryland at College Park and at Johns Hopkins University, joins us. Dr. Colwell, a former Director of the National Science Foundation, explains her collaboration with NASA to utilize satellites in the tracking and prediction of cholera outbreaks.
